The Sweetest Angel

It seems absolutely impossible that sweet Baby Reece turned one year old! We photographed her parents' wedding and then were lucky enough to capture her as a newborn. Kids just really do grow up too fast. Everyone tells you that, but you don't realize how true it is until there is a little one in your life, changing everyday. I guess that is why photographs are so important to me. I want to remember each face (and each outfit) before it changes. I have a bad memory, so I need visual reminders. :)

This precious princess is one of my favorite subjects. Her family is welcome at our studio any time!! Her mother is the nicest person you will ever meet, her father is fun, her brother is well-mannered, so it is no wonder that Reece herself is...perfection!! Happy Birthday, Sweetie!!

These are the very same wings she wore in her newborn photos that turned out so beautifully. A year later, she is still truly angelic!

I will attempt to catch up on some blogging soon, but we're busy, busy, so no promises. ;)

Here is the second part of our photo shoot with Nicole & Tyler, aka The Couple Voted Most Likely To Give You a Toothache....you know, because they are so sweet. :) They wanted an informal session and didn't want to do a lot of posing, so we basically just followed them around, offering hints when needed. They were fabulous subjects so there were a ton of great pics. Here are some more of my favorites...

In this same location, their expressions ranged from smokin' hot to sugary sweet, with lots of laughs in between. The awesome thing is, they just really are this cute with each other!

I love that you can really feel how much they care about each other...

He made her leg "pop"!

Oh! Too much cuteness!! I can't take it!! It was a close race, but I think these last two are my favorites. They just really capture their personalities.

I love how kids are completely oblivious to the heat. The grown-ups are trudging around in a bad mood begging for air-conditioning, but the munchkins continue running around with their incredible energy. Even on the hottest of days, Max had a TON of energy!! We were definitely breaking a sweat to keep up with him! :)

Finding LOVE in unlikely places

We first met Nicole & Tyler at their friends' Colleen & Preston's wedding last year. C&P were totally laid-back and we had such a great time shooting their wedding, so we were psyched when Nicole & Tyler called us to shoot their upcoming wedding.

They probably forgot about these pictures from C&P's wedding, but we didn't!! We've got:

1) Nicole and the bride.

2) the "Monsters in the Closet" group photo that the couple specifically requested. The arrows point out Nicole & Tyler's awesome faces.

3) the groom and Tyler riding on the stone horse outside of PF Chang's. It was something that the groom had always wanted to do and Roy was there to catch it. (Do NOT try this.)

4) the guys and Roy leaving PF Chang's quickly after being reprimanded by a manager. I was there to catch them fleeing.

Nicole & Tyler are adorable and fun-loving. Their joie de vivre is totally infectious, so we had a BLAST shooting their engagement photos. They wanted a casual feel for their portraits, so we went industrial. It was just one big, fun, urban romp, where occasionally, they were asked to hold a pose.

Since they are having an October wedding, this Grim Reaper mural caught our eye...

We found a rake lying near this dock, so Tyler wanted to try for a modern "American Gothic" homage...

This building was falling down, so they did their part to help hold it up...

This will likely be the cover of their photo guest book...

See, I remember a little Spanish from high school. ;) Allen is turning three soon and is celebrating with a fiesta-themed party. Technically, that would be a party-themed party, but you know what I'm saying. His mother is a brilliant jewelry designer slash graphic designer and will be making super awesome invitations for said party, which I can't wait to see. Check out the new backdrop!!

Our daughter loves the zoo, so we find ourselves there quite often. On a recent outing, we took a few shots, which I will now share. Yay!!

It really gives me chills when an animal this big and powerful looks at me like I'm an annoyance. (shudder)

A Family's Reunion

Three generations came together for the first time since the newest addition, Vivian, was born. The families are scattered to three different cities, on two different continents, and we were there to capture their happy reunion.

Nicole & Wade, part deux

Continuing the fun of our session with lovebirds, Nicole & Wade....

A slight detour led us to this lovely waterfall and we're glad it did.

Another unscripted stop yielded some nice photos (and Wade got some quality time with the statues) all because they totally trusted us...Love it!!

This shot was Nicole's idea and it turned out great (after we found a spot that didn't blind them).

We hadn't planned on this particular setting, but I fell in love with the hip shirts they were wearing and I thought a gritty urban locale would make a great backdrop. Thankfully, this couple was up for the challenge and we got some great stuff there.

Summertime Romance

Sometimes, I can't believe we get paid to just hang out with cool people.

I'm going to be really honest right now...I love what we do, but I was not looking forward to our shoot last Saturday because I knew it was going be ridiculously hot outside. I was worried that our engaged couple would tire quickly in the summer sun, which is not conducive to quality shots--it is hard to look happily in love when your face is melting off.

My fears were quickly put to rest when we started our session. Nicole & Wade, who will marry in September, had brought their game faces and were ready for anything. This young, fun-loving couple made the afternoon fly by and frankly, we were sad to leave. Since they were willing to follow our crazy whims, including several last-minute stops, we ended up shooting at 7 different locations! We wanted a lot of variety since we will be creating a custom photo guest book for their wedding. I haven't gotten through all of the pictures yet, so rest assured there will be more samples coming, but here are a few to get you started...

Starring Sofia

I tend to gush when I talk about this little girl because she is one of my absolute favorite kids to work with and I was SO jazzed to shoot her again. With her beautiful blue eyes, blonde hair and array of adorable facial expressions, she could be a child model. But on top of that- she is SUPER sweet! Her mom says that she has tantrums, but I don't believe it. When she calls Susan "Mama", it melts my heart a little! :)

Ok, guys! Sorry, we've been busy, busy bees! I'm editing photos right now, but I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that if you want an outdoor photo session before it gets unbearably hot, you better book NOW!! We have several engagement and portrait sessions booked in the next month and we've had a ton of inquiries. Don't wait until the last minute!! Wedding season is fast approaching and we won't be taking as many portrait sessions then. I know you have lots of summer birthdays, so give us a call to capture those milestones!!

Wedding Bells!

Love is in the air.....We have been meeting with many beautiful couples recently who are planning weddings for this year and next. We have already had to turn clients away because dates were booked, so I would suggest a preliminary meeting as soon as possible if you are planning a 2009 ceremony. Spring will be very busy with portrait sessions, so if you would like engagement portraits, now is the time to book!!

We have previously used traditional proof books as part of wedding packages, but are now offering coffee table books, as well. These are beautiful 8.5 x 11 hardcover books, with double-sided gloss pages and a heavy stock dust jacket. Below is a slideshow of a sample book from Colleen & Preston's wedding. We'll be happy to show you the finished sample.

We just watched KCTV5 news to see a special report featuring my friend Liz and her husband, Ryan. I passed her story onto to all of my friends with kids a couple weeks ago. Their little girl, Reece, was hospitalized after she broke out in a terrible rash. The doctors couldn't figure it out and it was a terrifying experience for them. They later discovered that she had a severe reaction to Carter's tag less clothing. The company was aware of the problem, but still keeping the items on shelves! I was appalled and angered, especially as a parent. Please pass this information on to any new parents.

Thankfully, Reece is doing great now. I'm relieved because she is a doll and her parents are sweethearts! Liz and Ryan trusted us to take pictures of their wedding and newborn photos of Reece with their son, Ben (which I haven't had a chance to post yet, sorry!). I was shocked and delighted to see one of the photos we took of Reece featured on the show. They said, "This picture of Reece is one her parents will always cherish...."

Then, we noticed that one of the wedding photos was hanging in the background during the interview.

After the segment, Katie Horner commented on the "beautiful picture of that baby", which is awesome because she is the ONLY meteorologist we watch! :)

I'm very proud of Liz because I know she was worried about doing that interview, but I'm so glad she did. I'm so sorry this happened to them, but hopefully this interview will save some families from having to go through the pain this family faced.

We took kids' portraits at Penton Media's annual Trick-or-Treat Day. The kids were adorable so I'll post some more later. The frames were designed by Michelle Hooper at www.hoopsdesign.com . Last month, we had the pleasure of capturing Addy's first birthday. It is such a good idea to hire someone to do this for you because I remember running around during our daughter's first birthday. If one person is taking pictures, then they can't be involved in the action and if you want video, too, then neither parent is really experiencing the moments.

Grandmas got to enjoy the party, too, because they didn't have to worry about taking pictures.

I love that both Bryan and April were able to help Addy with her cake because they didn't have to worry about who was taking pictures.
